A close look at how things work.
A practical drive to make them better.
The person behind Whetstone
I'm Jim. My background spans options and volatility trading, running a solo fund, and building ventures hands-on.
Trading and running a fund taught me to weigh risk, test assumptions, and allocate resources; I bring that discipline to decisions about pricing, people, and growth.
Whetstone brings that thinking to the businesses owners have already built. The opportunity might be in how you grow, how the work gets done, or a decision in front of you. I want to understand the business well enough to make a useful contribution, then help put it into practice.
The role depends on what you need: a thinking partner, someone to help oversee the change, or someone to take on the work. Those roles can sit together.
A working belief
Good judgment should lead to something useful in the business.
A recommendation matters when it helps you decide, changes how something works, or gives you a better way forward.
Why the name
Whetstone.
A whetstone makes a good tool sharper. We named the firm for that idea: helping owners make more of the businesses they've built.
This is not about discarding everything and starting again. It is about understanding what is there, seeing the potential, and doing the work to improve it.
What could be better
in your business?
A specific problem. An opportunity. A decision you want to get right. Start there.
